The Things I've Learned

5/17/2012
I haven't even left for the trip, and have already learned so much. To prepare for the trip we have had crash courses in Astronomy and Understanding the Weather, and we have had to prepare a presentation for the trip. I was fortunate to end up with a topic that suits my interests, water and flooding, specifically pro-glacial Missoula Lake and Ice Age Flooding. I'll be presenting the information to the group while we are in Montana. I'm happy to report that I have researched the topic and that I am ready to do this!
Additionally, I have learned that you should not wait until the day before leaving to pack your assigned box.

I intended to keep a running list here, but I have learned so much about so many things (including myself) that I don't even know where to begin. So Just know that this trip has taught me about the type of person I am, the type of person some of my friends are, and the types of things that I can handle. Apparently (after a good nights sleep) I can handle a lot more than I thought.

I've also learned that without real sleep, I cannot make heads or tails of simple math problems. 45 - 27? Hold on, I need a calculator for that.

Sweet tea may be a southern thing, but McDonald's will always have it anyway. Do not count on them to have a chicken biscuit, though.

Cut, dry fingers do not heal well in cold, wet conditions. But after two days back in the sweet Georgia humidity, they will be almost back to normal.

Putting up a tent becomes second nature after a few days. I can now put up a tent in the dark, and not smash my finger even once. Well, maybe once.

The pointy end of a rock hammer should be dulled before you stick it in your belt loop. Especially before climbing steep hills.
